Student Union Leadership Lab is an initiative by Matthew Dunlop for Canadian postsecondary student unions, associations and societies. Matthew is responsible for the personal information handled through this website. For privacy questions or requests, email matthew.dunlop@studentunionleadershiplab.ca.
The short version
- The free worksheet and discussion-note tools work in your open browser page. They do not submit your answers to the Lab.
- We count page views and referring sites using Koko Analytics, without unique-visitor detection.
- If you email Matthew, your message and contact details are handled through email services so he can respond.
- This site currently has no public account registration, membership checkout, newsletter signup or case-intake form.
Free tools and downloads
Your worksheet answers and discussion notes remain in the open page. Download buttons create a text file on your device; the tool does not send those entries to us, an AI service or a member database. Closing or refreshing the page can lose unsaved work. You control the downloaded file and who you share it with.
Use fictional, anonymized or appropriately authorized information. Avoid entering personal case details, passwords or confidential records on a shared device. Your browser, device and any service you independently use to save or share a file have their own privacy settings.
Website traffic and cookies
Koko Analytics records aggregate page-view counts and referring sites to help us understand which resources are useful. Reports are stored in this website’s database and are configured to delete statistics older than 12 months. Unique-visitor detection is set to None; the Lab does not use an analytics visitor-identification cookie or fingerprint for that purpose. Geolocation, device and campaign tracking are not enabled.
The site does not currently use advertising pixels, embedded social feeds or a Google Analytics integration. WordPress and hosting/security systems may use cookies for administration, sign-in or security. Your browser lets you review and remove cookies; blocking essential cookies can affect sign-in or security features.
Hosting and security information
Web Hosting Canada provides the hosting and business email services. Serving pages and protecting the site can involve technical information such as IP addresses, request times, requested pages, browser information and failed sign-in attempts. Hosting and security logs are separate from Koko’s aggregate reports. Their exact retention periods have not yet been confirmed; please contact Matthew if this affects your use of the site.
WHC describes Canadian storage with exceptions for third-party processing in other countries. We do not promise that every support, security, email or provider process stays in Canada. See WHC’s privacy policy for its provider practices.
If you contact us
An email link opens your email application. If you send a message, Matthew receives your email address, message, attachments and the contact details you choose to include. These are used to answer your inquiry, discuss a possible engagement or address website, privacy or accessibility feedback. Email is processed through the sender’s and recipient’s email services. Start with a general description; please do not send sensitive case files or information about other people before an appropriate process is agreed.
Contacting the Lab does not subscribe you to a marketing list. Correspondence is kept for the inquiry or relationship and any applicable recordkeeping obligations, then reviewed for deletion when no longer needed. Provider logs and backup copies may follow separate retention schedules. There is no promise of immediate deletion from every provider system.
Access, sharing and safeguards
Information is handled by Matthew and the service providers needed to operate the website, security and email. We do not sell inquiry information or use it for targeted advertising. Information may also need to be disclosed where legally required. Public links, including LinkedIn, lead to other services governed by their own privacy practices.
The site uses HTTPS and login protection. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. Please report a concern privately by email without sending passwords, recovery codes or other people’s personal information.
Your questions and choices
You may ask what personal information the Lab holds about you, request access or correction, ask for deletion, raise a complaint or withdraw consent where applicable. Email Matthew with “Privacy request” in the subject and enough context to identify the relevant correspondence. We may need proportionate identity verification; please do not attach identity documents unless a safe process has been agreed. Legal retention requirements and other lawful exceptions may affect a request.
You can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the relevant provincial privacy authority.
